The Internet Pinball Serial Number Database or IPSND collects serial numbers of pinball machines and publishes a database of these on the Internet. Our goal is to make available a registration of all pinball machines in existence and allow tools for slicing, dicing and visualization of the data.

We have RSS!!!

I have been playing around with RSS feeds and I think this might be a good way to disperse information about the serial numbers in the database in a very straightforward way. We will start simple and see what people find useful. For now there are three main RSS feed 'Channels' avaiable and each can be used to find out more specific information.

RSS Icon IPSND Submissions - You can access this RSS feed via the URL https://www.ipsnd.net/submissions.rss. This will show the last 25 serial number submissions to the site along with a short summary of information about that submission. Each article in the feed will link to the submission details on the site.

RSS Icon IPSND Announcements - You can access this RSS feed via the URL https://www.ipsnd.net/news.rss. This will publish the current and past news/announcements for the IPSND. Each article in the feed will link to the web page containing that full announcement.

RSS Icon IPSND Game Data - This channel is a little more interesting, the basic page that explains how to use the channel is at https://www.ipsnd.net/game.rss. This channel is a little different in that it is made so you can get an RSS for any game in the database. The feed will have a bit of summary text and will also contain all the serial number data for the game specified. So, for instance, subscribing to the RSS feed at https://www.ipsnd.net/game.rss?id=2684 will display a feed specific to Twilight Zone (TZ) that contains some basic info about the game in the description and also has *all* serial numbers in the feed items. This is my cheap way of making the data available in a 'Web Service' type of way without actually making a web service for now.
